Title of a book by Ouspensky. More broadly The Fourth Way is what Gurdjieff described as "The Way of the Clever Man". This is a spiritual path, a means to realisation which combines elements of the other main "ways":
- The way of the Fakir - spiritual attainment through physical discipline.
- The way of the Monk - through emotional practice.
- The Way of the Yogi - through knowledge and concentration.
The
fourth way is practised by someone who observes themselves, practices deliberate consciousness (
Self Remembering) and balances approaches from each of the other ways in order to attain a
development which is rounded and deals with all the
centres harmoniously. For more information see
Gurdjieff.
